Binary and Hexadecimal Numbers

Middle individually · in pairs print prep 2–5 minFREEcomputer sciencebinaryhexadecimalfree

A generator of problems on converting numbers to decimal. In the binary version the pupil converts a number such as (1011)₂ to 11, in the hexadecimal version a number such as (2F)₁₆ to 47. Choose whether the numbers go up to 16, one hex digit or four bits, or up to 256, one byte.

On the website you place the problems on a worksheet in columns or with lines for working, and add an answer key if you like. They also go on game cards such as memory or dominoes with the binary and decimal forms, or into multiple-choice questions. Every time you generate, you get new numbers.

It suits computing lessons in lower and upper secondary school, when pupils learn how a computer stores numbers.
