Brackets and Order of Operations
A generator of problems with brackets that mix adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing, for example (3 + 5) × 4 = 32 or 40 – (6 × 5) = 10. The problems follow 14 patterns with the bracket in different places. Multiplication and division stay within the times tables, addition and subtraction use numbers up to 50. The answer is always from 0 to 100 and division never leaves a remainder.
On the website you place the problems on a worksheet in columns or with lines for working, and add an answer key if you like. They also go on game cards or into multiple-choice questions, where the wrong order of operations leads to a different answer. Every time you generate, you get new problems.
It suits children in Years 5 to 7 (4th to 6th grade) practising the order of operations.
