Column Addition

A generator of column addition problems. Choose how many digits each addend has (1 to 6) and the carrying: none, one carry, a carry in every column, or mixed. The second addend can also be a whole ten, hundred or thousand, for example 3450 + 200 = 3650. The sum never has more digits than the longer number.

On the website you place the problems on a worksheet. The layout with lines for working leaves room for the column method. You can add an answer key to the sheet. Every time you generate, you get new problems.

It suits children from Year 3 (2nd grade), when they start column addition, up to Year 6 (5th grade), when they add six-digit numbers. The carrying levels help you move from easy problems to harder ones.
