Czech Y-Spelling Word Lists

Elementary individually · in pairs print prep 2–5 minFREECzechfree

The Czech lists of “enumerated words”, which are spelled with y, in the same order children learn them by heart. Choose the letter B, L, M, P, S, V or Z and the list holds the whole series, for example být, bydlit, obyvatel, byt, příbytek, nábytek, dobytek through to babyka.

On the website you place the list into materials where children put items in order: on a string, in a word chain, in a sequencing puzzle, in a dot-to-dot or in a self-checking frame. The items are printed shuffled and the child arranges them in the right order. Children say the words aloud as they go, so they fix the series by ear and by eye.

It suits Czech-speaking children in Year 4 (3rd grade), when they learn the lists by heart, and revision in Year 5. It also works as a quick check of whether a child knows the whole list.
