Mixed Addition and Subtraction

A generator of problems that mix adding and subtracting, for example 14 – 6 + 9 = 17. Choose the range, up to 20, 100 or 1000, and how many numbers each problem has: three, four or five. The signs are random. No running total goes below zero or above the chosen range, so children can work from left to right.

On the website you place the problems on a worksheet in columns or with lines for working, and add an answer key if you like. They also go on game cards or into multiple-choice questions. Every time you generate, you get new problems.

The range up to 20 suits Years 1 and 2 (kindergarten and 1st grade), up to 100 suits Years 3 and 4, and up to 1000 suits older children.
