Multiplication in Words

A generator of multiplication problems written in words. Instead of 3 · 8 = children read “triple 8”, “the product of 3 and 8” or “3 times 8”. Choose the multiples of one number from 1 to 15, or a version that multiplies two numbers from 1 to 100. Words like double, triple and up to ten times appear with numbers up to 10.

On the website you place the problems on a worksheet, in columns or with lines for working, and add an answer key if you like. They also go on game cards, such as memory with the word problem on one card and the answer on the other, or into multiple-choice questions. Children first work out what the words mean and then calculate.

It suits children learning their times tables from Year 3 (2nd grade). The version with numbers up to 100 is for older children who already multiply in columns.
