Rounding Whole Numbers

A generator of rounding problems with whole numbers, for example 4583 ≈ 4580 to the nearest ten. Choose what to round to: tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousands, hundred thousands or millions. The second choice is how many digits the number has, from two to twelve. Numbers are rounded the usual way, with five rounding up.

On the website you place the problems on a worksheet in columns or with lines for working, and add an answer key if you like. They also go on game cards such as memory with a number and its rounded value, or into multiple-choice questions, where children only pick the right place value when they understand the method.

It suits children from Year 4 (3rd grade) rounding to tens and hundreds, and Years 5 and 6 for larger place values.
