Squares, Cubes and Powers of Two

Middle individually · in pairs print prep 2–5 minFREEMathematicspowersexponentsfree

A generator of powers problems in three versions. Squares, for example 13² = 169, and cubes, for example 4³ = 64, use numbers from 0 up to 5, 10, 16 or 20. Powers of two, for example 2⁷ = 128, have an exponent from 0 up to 5, 10, 16 or 20.

On the website you place the problems on a worksheet in columns or with lines for working, and add an answer key if you like. They work well on game cards such as memory or dominoes with the power and its value, because squares up to 20 are worth knowing by heart. Multiple-choice questions are another option. Every time you generate, you get new problems.

It suits pupils in Year 9 (8th grade) learning powers. Powers of two are also useful in computing lessons.
